An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a PC and functions as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, web hosting servers also use an Operating System which acts as a host for the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server solutions come with three Linux releases which you can pick from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being absolutely free, the OSs are very stable and risk-free and the main reason to offer you the 3 of them is to make sure that you will be able to run each app that you'd like, because different pieces of software have different requirements regarding the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of developers who have made thousands of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to control your web hosting content. Needless to say, if you decide that you need some other OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on the server as different applications could have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a reliable and safe web hosting service. Depending on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
