Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of handling an Internet hosting account. The commands which may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for instance, the options are limited since you'll not have root access to the hosting server, so you could simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. They are all actions that are executed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll be able to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

SSH access is available with all shared hosting packages we offer you. With some of them, it's offered by default, while with others it's an additional upgrade that you can include with a few clicks from your website hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access from the section related to it where you can also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password which you shall use and, if needed, you will be able to modify it with a couple of clicks from the same place. All the commands that can be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is provided as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you could include it from the hosting Control Panel if required - even just for the current month. Either way, you are able to activate and de-activate the function with only one mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you may enter the password you want to use, as it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you may also change it as much as you want. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports such connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

You shall be able to use SSH to control your content no matter which Linux VPS hosting packages you choose when you sign up, because all of our plans provide this feature as standard. You won't need to add or activate anything by hand - the minute your hosting server is prepared and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login info, you may connect and begin working on your websites or any software which you want to set up and run on the web server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account will be isolated from the other accounts within the physical web server, you shall be able to do anything you'd like with no restrictions. You could set up any app that you need and which will work on a Linux-based hosting server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases quickly and easily.
